How do I qualify for membership?
The only qualifying factor is intelligence. Membership is decided by a test administered by the organisation. The test is a non-culture based test. More details can be found in the Test Section.
Note that the mensa admission test needs to be taken only once and the result is valid lifelong. If you pass, you can acquire membership at any mensa chapter, anywhere in the world, without having to retake the test! However, the membership costs may vary across chapters.
mensa provides intriguing ways to flex your mental muscles. As a member, you will receive the mensa International Journal, as well as the national and regional newsletters of your area. You will also be invited for annual and regional conferences and conventions where you can meet fellow mensans.
Whatever your passion, there's almost certain to be a Special Interest Group (SIG) filled with other mensans who share it! mensa offers approximately 200 SIGs, in mind-boggling profusion from African Violets to zoology. Along the way you'll find microbiology, and systems analysis, but you'll also find Sherlock Holmes, chocolate and Star Trek. There's the expected: biochemistry, space science, economics -- and the unexpected: poker, roller-skating, scuba diving, UFOs and witchcraft! Take a look at our member profiles.
Also, as a member of mensa India (Bangalore), you will be eligible to join the members only mailing list, where you will be intimated about events, workshops, lectures, special offers and other activities of interest. You will also be eligible to get accounts/memberships at the "mensans only" online forums/offline clubs run by other members.
As a life member of mensa india (bangalore), you are eligible to get an e-mail address at our server i.e., you can get your very own name@mensabangalore.org e-mail address, for life!
There's also a Service for Information, Guidance and Hospitality for Travellers (SIGHT) that aids travelling mensans to find accomodation and get information on local attractions and events.
Mensa members find opportunities to contribute to the betterment of society through volunteer activities within their communities. Many Mensa groups offer scholarships for gifted students. The Gifted Children Resource Program compiles and provides information for gifted children at the national and local levels.
Mensa India (Bangalore) offers both - a life as well as an annual membership, which runs between April - March. Both memberships are valid across India.
